We're all in this together

The Mentor Collective program enhances the new student experience by linking first-year students one-on-one with a peer mentor. Students are paired with someone invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect in school, how to approach challenges, gain career advice and valuable insights, while mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.

How it works

Students will be matched with a peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to assess personality and experience.
What do mentors and mentees discuss?
  • How will my major impact my professional options?
  • How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
  • How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?

Mentors are invested in new student success.  The goal of the mentor is to assist with the needs of the student through accountability and connection as well as support their academic and personal goals at Oklahoma State.
Freshmen who sign up will be matched with a mentor personalized to meet your needs. This is a great step to achieving your success! These mentors will strive to help with your future goals and aspirations in a way that works for you

Specifically designed for you

Similarly to freshman students, transfer students have the opportunity to find a mentor specific to them who will assist with their needs and invest in their success. New transfer students will be matched with a transfer mentor who has successfully transitioned to OSU and is thriving on campus, eager to support your adjustment to OSU.

"Being a freshman is not easy, changing to a new and big school with thousands of new faces and buildings, it is very easy get confused academically and mentally. I have been through all of this and I really want to be there for someone when they feel lost and they need a friend."

- A, OSU Mentor

"I’m volunteering because I want to help people get accustomed to Oklahoma State and make sure this school feels like home for them. I want to be a mentor because I wish I had one when I was starting here at OSU."

- B, OSU Mentor

"I want to be a mentor because I love people and I love taking on challenges specifically in leadership areas, and helping others walk through what I went through and putting my experiences from my first year to good use. My first year set me up with a lot of challenges that I wasn't expecting and it was the hardest thing I've had to do but I loved every minute of it and OSU is my home now."

- K, OSU Mentor
